Revival Series

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Several people have asked for an easy-to-refer-to list of my revival series. Below are links to all 12 installments plus a couple of other relevant articles. The intent is to eventually expand this information into a book. Until then, here are the articles:
Your revival profile
1. Stirred Up
2. Uncomfortable
3. How to stop a revival
4. Jonathan Edwards […]

Numbed to Sin

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Repeating an old Vantage Point in the blog venue. This column was one of our top mail producers.
Christians used to be concerned about the entertainment industry being morally on the edge, and worried that young believers would be tempted to dabble in questionable pastimes. That concern is now a thing of the past. Entertainment has […]

The Christian Response to Hunger and Poverty

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

This article, originally published in our November 24, 2002 issue, has been reprinted in several publications since then. With Thanksgiving and World Hunger Day approaching, we offer this reprise of an important topic.
“Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; […]

Historic Pentecostal Evangel Series: 1920s

Monday, August 25th, 2008

In the Whitened Harvest Fields
As we view the reasons for the growth of the Assemblies of God in the first two decades of its existence, we must not overlook the evangelist and revival meetings. They opened cities to the Pentecostal message and helped strengthen struggling storefront churches to grow and move from the wrong […]

Book Review: Jonathan Edwards: A Life by George M. Marsden

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

My review of this great book was posted on the Yale University Web site, after being published in Today’s Pentecostal Evangel. Here it is:
“This book will be a delight to lovers of religious biography and the history of revival. This may be the most comprehensive of the many biographies of Edwards. It also surpasses others […]

Hit-and-Run Exposes Loss of “Moral Compass”

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Hartford, Connecticut, has lost its “moral compass” according to its police chief and surveillance video. A hit-and-run victim meets incredibly with apathetic spectator response. (Read the story here.)
Hartford, unfortunately, is a microcosm of a greater problem … and an indicator that Christians, more than ever, need to pray for revival and minister within their communities.

Gay Marriage Approved in California and New York

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

My home state (Calif.) strikes again.
On June 17, California begins issuing licenses to same-sex couples; New York will recognize same-sex unions performed elsewhere. Read the AP story.
Yes, Christians are supposed to hate the sin and love the sinner … and we definitely must do that. But we dare not become complacent. Our nation is in […]

As We Recall the Resurrection, Let Us Turn Our Hearts to Thoughts of Revival

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

This is Saturday of Holy Week. By rights, I should be writing a post on the celebration of the Resurrection. Believers do have so much to celebrate. But I hear the Holy Spirit saying something else to me right now: As we recall the Resurrection, we should turn our hearts to thoughts of revival.
These thoughts […]

Evidences of Revival

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

My friend James K. Bridges completes his 15 years as general treasurer of the Assemblies of God at the end of this month. I’m a big fan of this man of God. We held a special luncheon in his honor with our staff this Tuesday. He has been a huge encouragement and support to the […]
