National Day of Prayer

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

I attended the National Day of Prayer Breakfast this morning in Springfield, Missouri, along with many hundreds of others from the area. If you couldn’t attend one of these in your area, you can still pray for your nation. We need it.

Pictures taken from my iPhone.
Speaker was Major General Cecil Richardson, Chief of Chaplains for […]

Update on Peggy’s Cancer Treatment

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

I have been remiss in keeping readers of TPE updated on this blog on what is going on with my wife. Most of the updates have been on my personal blog, Peggy’s blog and our Facebook pages. Someone recently responded to one of my earlier posts here so I figured I had better post an […]

My Wife’s Cancer

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Just a few days before Christmas, my wife, Peggy was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has 2 lumps and it is the fastest-growing kind so we got her scheduled for surgery as soon as possible. The surgery will be on January 6. She will have 6 weeks of radiation and hopefully no chemo. The pathology […]

Thoughts on the Election and 2 Chronicles 7:14

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

Sharing something to think about from one of our U.S. missionaries:
A Time For His People To Pray
By R. Duane Gryder
During an important national election as is the presidential election this year, pastors all over the country remind us how important it is for us to pray. I often hear the passage from 2 Chronicles at […]

Kristy Dykes, Author/Pastor’s Wife, Needs Prayer

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

On November 7 of last year, Christian fiction author and AG pastor’s wife Kristy Dykes began her blog this way: “It is 11 p.m. I just got home. Please pray for me, Kristy Dykes, pastor’s wife and fiction author.” The post was titled, “MY BRAIN TUMOR.”
Kristy and her husband, Milton Dykes, pastor of Southside Assembly […]

Gay Marriage Approved in California and New York

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

My home state (Calif.) strikes again.
On June 17, California begins issuing licenses to same-sex couples; New York will recognize same-sex unions performed elsewhere. Read the AP story.
Yes, Christians are supposed to hate the sin and love the sinner … and we definitely must do that. But we dare not become complacent. Our nation is in […]

Ukraine: 22 Years Since Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Evangelical Theological Seminary in Kiev, Ukraine
The AP reported today:
Dozens of mourners gathered in the Ukrainian capital on Saturday to mark 22 years since the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
Holding candles and portraits of relatives, the mourners laid flowers at a memorial to victims of the accident.
Reactor No. 4 at Chernobyl, in what is now northern Ukraine, exploded […]

In the News: Praying to the Dead

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

The AP reported today from San Giovanni Rotondo in Italy:
The body of Padre Pio, a hugely popular Italian saint, goes on public display Thursday in a southern Italian town where thousands have gathered to pray to the mystic monk….
This kind of woeful superstition and benighted religion persists in much of the world. Unfortunately, this is […]

6 Reasons for Delayed or Denied Healing

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

My article on “Divine Healing Fanatics” dealt primarily with suffering and treatable conditions. (Read it here.) But it raises a related issue. Here are my thoughts from a Vantage Point column of several years ago:
When God Doesn’t Heal
God still heals. Absolutely. Positively. I’ve seen it too often to believe anything else.
I used to take ministry […]
