EMPOWERED21 GLOBAL COUNCIL CONVENES
Key Global Leaders from Every Continent Synergize
Toward Reaching the Next Generation
Honolulu, Hawaii –The Empowered21 Global Council, an esteemed group of international Christian leaders, co-chaired by Jack Hayford and Billy Wilson, convened for a three-day meeting on January 15-17, 2013 to discuss Empowered21 initiatives and give inspirational direction to 12 regional cabinets.
Regional cabinet leaders reported significant progress for 2012 in Empowered21 Regions. Highlights included the exploratory meeting of E21 Brazil, groundbreaking gatherings in Eastern and Western Canada, ‘The Empowered21 European Resolution’ uniting European leaders, and the rapid growth of E21 Oceania. Additionally, E21 Asia gave detailed plans to expand the Empowered21 network to India, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Japan, extending an invitation for all nations to attend the Empowered21 Asia Congress, Jakarta, Indonesia, May 14-17, 2013.
Progress toward the next Empowered21 Global Congress scheduled for May 18-24, 2015 in Jerusalem was shared. The Council worked on initial programming decisions and the overall approach for the Congress. One goal is to have at least one attendee from every nation on earth. The Congress will have a projected attendance of thousands and could become the largest convention of any kind in modern Jerusalem history. The Global Congress will feature pre-events in other Middle Eastern nations, unique sessions at places of Biblical significance like the Jordan River and Caesarea, daily general sessions, focused conversation tracks in area hotels, pre and post tours and potentially a 24-7 prayer gathering at the Upper Room.
Billy Wilson, Co-chair of the Global Council and Executive Director of Empowered21, said: “It is amazing to see leaders at this level come together to plan, pray and help shape the future of this movement on behalf of new generations. Their deep desire is to see our children and grandchildren live the Spirit-empowered life. Our meeting in Hawaii deepened our fellowship and our commitment to seeing the “knowledge of the Glory of the Lord cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.”
Significant time and effort by the Global Council focused on contemplating 21st Century challenges in fulfilling their Vision Statement:
“That every person on Earth would have an authentic encounter with Jesus Christ
through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit… by Pentecost 2033.”
Reports were given regarding the ‘Children of the World’ by Rob Hoskins of OneHope; ‘Youth of the World’ by Ron Luce of Teen Mania; ‘God’s Word Around the World’ by Mart Green of Every Tribe Every Nation; ‘Church Planting and Growth’ by George Wood of the Assemblies of God; ‘Global Media Penetration’ by Billy Wilson of Empowered21; and ‘Spirit Empowered Christianity Today’ by Vinson Synan of Regent University. These reports revealed that Renewalist (Pentecostal and Charismatic) Christianity is the fastest growing Christian movement on earth, yet considerable challenges to reaching every person in the world are being faced in all of these areas.
The inaugural Empowered21 Vision Award was presented to Loren Cunningham of Youth With A Mission. The annual award will be presented to an individual or ministry who embodies the Empowered21 Vision in an exemplary way. Cunningham’s vision of young people flooding the earth more than fifty years ago has led to thousands of missionaries around the world on every continent. Loren has personally preached in every nation of the world.
Specific areas where Empowered21 will focus its efforts in 2013 include:
Pentecost 2013 – A global initiative to celebrate the Holy Spirit during the seven weeks between Easter and Pentecost with a focus on local churches around the globe inviting new generations to experience the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday weekend. Resources including promotional videos, devotionals, and sermon outlines will be available at www.empowered21.com and www.pentecostsunday.tv
Spirit-empowered Coaching – Empowered21 leadership will share teaching on the Holy Spirit with pastors through teaching and direct mentoring at www.ministrycoach.tv.
NGYN21 – The Next Generation Youth-Leaders Network will continue to connect youth leaders on five continents for the free exchange of ideas and encouragement and will meet again April 8-9, 2013, Jacksonville, FL.
Generations Experience – A new “retreat in a box” resource called Generations Experience has been tested and will be made available to the global Church. This weekend event bridges generational divides found within churches and helps identify the spiritual needs of both old and young while fostering lifelong friendships.
Scholars Consultation –Top global Spirit-empowered scholars are working with Dr. Vinson Synan and Dr. Amos Young to create a definitive look at 21st Century Spirit-empowered Christianity. Their work will be shared during the E21 Jerusalem Congress in 2015.
The Global Council launched a Spirit-Empowered Discipleship Global Task Force, which will be chaired by David Ferguson, Intimate Life Ministries. The Task Force will work toward leading a full conversation tract on Spirit-empowered discipleship at the 2015 Jerusalem Congress.
Vinson Synan, speaking on behalf of the Discipleship Commission said, “All too often we have lost our sense of urgency in mission and longing for the full realization of the reign of Christ. It is not enough to measure faith by knowledge or by adherence to a set of rules. It is vital that new believers have direct encounters with God’s sovereign, convicting, and transforming presence. It is the presence of the Holy Spirit that transforms lives.”
Wayne Corderio, Pastor of New Hope, Oahu, Hawaii, challenged the Council to continue mentoring and developing leaders, stating that the greatest lack in tomorrow’s church will be not be the lack of leaders, but under-developed leaders. “Our greatest ministry should be in the next generation. It only takes a few seconds to pass the baton, but a decade to prepare the baton.”
The Empowered21 mission remains “to help shape the future of the Global Spirit-empowered movement throughout the world by focusing on crucial issues facing the movement and connecting generations for intergenerational blessing and impartation.” The next meeting of the Empowered21 Global Council will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, January 14-16, 2014.
