Paul Lowenberg with Christ
By Ken Horn | November 7, 2008
Dr. Paul E. Lowenberg, distinguished former Assemblies of God executive presbyter and Kansas District superintendent, passed away Thursday evening. He would have been 95 on December 28. I had the privilege of meeting this man of God for the first time after we moved to Springfield. Here is the AG News report:
Dr. Lowenberg, who was born in Grenfell, Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1913, was an ordained minister for 73 years - 17 with Canada and 56 with the Assemblies of God. He was an evangelist and pastor for a number of years before he was elected assistant superintendent of the Kansas District in 1962. In 1964, he became superintendent and served in that capacity for 14 years. He was elected an executive presbyter of the church in 1969 and served in that position until he stepped down in 1993.
“I think it’s fair to say that for many years, Brother Lowenberg set the standard for great preaching in the Assemblies of God,” states AG General Superintendent George Wood. “Several called him the ‘preacher’s preacher,’ and indeed he was. He showed that Pentecostal preaching could be inspirational, rich in content and homiletically correct.”
Along with traveling to six continents in the interest of missions and evangelism, Lowenberg was a sought after preacher for camp meetings, revivals, retreats and councils. He was an avid church planter as well, responsible for planting 20 churches in Canada and the United States.
A devoted family man, Lowenberg was preceded in death by his wife Bernice. He is survived by his children, Doug Lowenberg (a missionary to Kenya) and Sandra Bradford (wife of Dr. James Bradford, senior pastor of Central Assembly in Springfield, Missouri) and four granddaughters.
Interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, in Wichita, Kansas. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, November 14, at Central Assembly of God in Springfield, Missouri.
I am thankful for the men of God who have gone before us. I am thankful for the life of Paul Lowenberg.
