College Presidents Apparently Covet “Party School” Moniker

Shocked by the goings on at some of the “party schools” in our nation? Be prepared for more. The rash of intoxication-driven tragedies and rampant drunkenness might soon be rising … that is if some college presidents get their way.

AP reported that college presidents from about 100 of the nation’s best-known universities, including Duke, Dartmouth and Ohio State, are calling on lawmakers to consider lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18.

Duke President Richard Brodhead declined an interview request. But he wrote in a statement on the Amethyst Initiative’s Web site that the 21-year-old drinking age “pushes drinking into hiding, heightening its risks.” It also prevents school officials “from addressing drinking with students as an issue of responsible choice.”

MADD and others disagree. President Brodhead, explain to me why you can’t address drinking with students now?
