Friday, June 27th, 2008My May 25 Vantage Point has pulled in more mail than we usually get. So I’d like to share it with my blog readers who may not have seen it. I’ve included a few of the responses we have received.
Respecting Age
OK, I realize older people can get cranky and defensive about “the way things used […]
Book Review: Jonathan Edwards: A Life by George M. Marsden
Thursday, June 26th, 2008My review of this great book was posted on the Yale University Web site, after being published in Today’s Pentecostal Evangel. Here it is:
“This book will be a delight to lovers of religious biography and the history of revival. This may be the most comprehensive of the many biographies of Edwards. It also surpasses others […]
Book Review: The Hour That Changes the World by Dick Eastman
Wednesday, June 25th, 2008The Hour That Changes the World by Dick Eastman was a milestone in my prayer life, clearly showing how easy it can be to spend an hour with God. Eastman peppers his writing with great quotes from great people of prayer. An exceptionally practical aid for the serious practitioner of prayer or the believer longing […]
Book Review: Humility by Andrew Murray
Tuesday, June 24th, 2008This is one of the few books I reread on a regular basis. It challenges me every time I dip into it. All Christians need it … but those in highly visible positions need it the most. I highly recommend this book. It can also act as a gateway to Murray’s many other anointed writings.
Visual Bookshelf on Facebook
Friday, June 20th, 2008I have found this Facebook application to be interesting and valuable. I just added it today and will be adding books I have read a little at a time. It is spurring me to do brief reviews (or at least opinions) of books I have read. I’ll be adding some of them to the blog […]

“The father who carefully protects and guards his virgin daughter’s ears from every polluting word takes her to the theater himself, exposing […]

Youth Encouraged by School to Be Transvestites
Wednesday, June 18th, 2008It was just a matter of time.
BANGKOK, Thailand (AP): For teen boys who prefer to dress as girls at one rural high school in Thailand, taking a bathroom break no longer means choosing between “male” and “female” restrooms. There’s now a “transvestite toilet.”

Do It Your Way
Tuesday, June 17th, 2008I have long been turned off by successful ministers who insist that doing ministry their way is the only way. We have ended up trying to pound a lot of square pegs into round holes because of that.
Steve Pike, head of the Assemblies of God Church Multiplication Network, recently wrote an interesting article about this. […]
Dad’s Last Fish
Sunday, June 15th, 2008For Father’s Day, I offer this short article I wrote about my dad shortly after his death, 17 years ago.
A broad tailfin slapped the water and sent spray skyward. I watched as my dad held on desperately, a mixture of excitement and fatigue evident on his face. His gnarled, arthritic hands all but ignored his […]
