When Missionaries Itinerate

By Ken Horn | January 9, 2008

Steve and Patti Gray, missionaries to Padua, Italy, whose ministry we wrote about in TPE WME, recently sent out their newsletter. I thought I would share an excerpt so you can have a perspective on what we call the itineration period.

We thank God that we have been able to travel the USA and worship in your churches, watching people come to the Cross and enjoy a fresh move of the Holy Spirit. Our missions services began in Minnesota, then going south to Arizona, through the west coast, on through the upper Midwest, down to Georgia and Florida, then back up to Ohio, where we are now. We’ll be heading through the east coast and back to Minnesota at Christmas, and on to Italy January 10. We have visited friends and family, which has been very uplifting. Some are folks that have been in ICF Rome several years ago. We are thankful for all the love and hospitality. We are thankful for churches and individuals that have given toward the ministry in Italy. Make no mistake, our deputation travels have been tough, driving 22,000 miles since July 2, sleeping in different beds almost every night, eating the same restaurant foods, and making zillions of phone calls (averaging 3000 minutes a month). Even so, we are thankful to the Lord that He is in control. It is His ministry, His church, His Kingdom.

Next time your church has a visiting missionary, this might help you understand a little better what they are going through. Treat them well!
